Listening (and Telling) Stories

July 3rd, 2008 – The following email was sent to the 30,000+ supporters of iLoveMountains.org. To sign up to receive free email alerts, click here.
We last wrote to tell you about America’s Most Endangered Mountains – and asked for your help getting the word out about the threat posed by mountaintop removal coal mining to the irreplaceable communities of Appalachia.
Since then, the online videos that tell the stories of those communities have been viewed more than 27,000 times, and we’ve reached an incredible new milestone: more than 30,000 people have now joined the movement to stop mountaintop removal coal mining at iLoveMountains.org.
If you haven’t yet heard the stories about America’s Most Endangered Mountains, check them out:

We also wrote to you about the launch of our Blogger’s Challenge. Without the multimillion dollar advertising and PR budget of Big Coal, we rely on citizens like you – whether through blogging or forwarding emails to your friends, family and colleagues – to spread the word about the incredible devastation caused by mountaintop removal coal mining.
I’m pleased to tell you that more than 230 bloggers have already accepted our challenge to help spread the word – reaching tens of thousands of people who might not otherwise have learned about our movement to protect the mountains we all love.

In the coming weeks, we’ll be telling you the story about Gauley Mountain, West Virginia — one of America’s most beautiful – and most endangered – mountains.
Until then – have a safe and happy Fourth of July Weekend from all of us at iLoveMountains.org.
