HELP SPREAD THE WORD — Join thousands who are standing up against the destruction of Appalachian mountains and communities and who are helping to spread awareness of the other inconvenient truth about coal: mountaintop removal.
THEY’RE BLOWING UP OUR MOUNTAINS AND THERE OUGHT TO BE A LAW! Ask your representative to support the Clean Water Protection Act – a bill that would curtail mountaintop removal and protect clean water for millions of Americans.
TELL YOUR ELECTRICITY PROVIDER — “NOT IN MY NAME!” — Click on this link, submit your zip code and choose “Take Action” where you can print out a letter – tailored to your own electricity provider – asking them not to do business with companies engaged in mountaintop removal strip mining.
heart DONATE WHERE IT’S NEEDED MOST — The most immediate way to help the people fighting to save their homes and mountains near Sylvester is to support Coal River Mountain Watch. The mission of Coal River Mountain Watch is to stop the destruction of communities and environment by mountaintop removal mining, to improve the quality of life and to help rebuild sustainable communities. Having returned to West Virginia a year ago Christmas after having been out of Boone Country for over 30 years, I have truly discovered that I live in a coalfield. Cleaning the black dirt off the deck is a constant reminder. I love the mountains and am truly saddened by the destruction that is constantly on the move (toward my home). Thank you for the work that you are doing to preserve what is left of the beautiful WV hills.

    Thank you.

I live in New York City. I’m going to tell Con Edison to stop using coal. I’m switching to wind power sources on my electric bill. I’ve shared this site with my friends and family. I’m going to contact my legislators too!

  6. Rich Blair Says:

I believe the residents of Sylvester should be compensated for the losses they have incurred because of the coal mining operations. There loss of clean water and air are inexcusable. Also, the hugh decreases in the value of their properties is unconcienceable as a result of the coal companies destruction of their environment. Where is justice and fairness for these people in Sylvester?

  7. Amy Lawson Says:

We use this in my history of coal class to help people understand the real impacts of MTR. This is such an amazing tool, with our help we can seriously put an end to irresponsible coal mining!
