Tell West Virginia: Protect People, Not Industry
The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP) has proposed a Consent Order with Freedom Industries, the company responsible for the chemical spill discovered on January 9th that contaminated the drinking water of more than 300,000 West Virginians.
Unfortunately, the Consent Order only goes so far as to outline deadlines for the removal of chemicals and storage tanks from Freedom Industries’ Elk River sites, and asks that the company complies with existing laws. The order contains NO monetary penalty.
Send your letter to WVDEP Secretary Randy Huffman and demand that his agency require real enforcement, including monetary penalties, in the settlement with Freedom Industries.
