ACT NOW: Tell your representative to oppose H.R. 2824

Act Now: Tell your representative to oppose H.R. 2824.

Rep. Bill Johnson’s bill, H.R. 2824, is a blatant attempt to help coal companies who want to blow up The Appalachian Mountains and dump their waste into streams do just that.

They’re calling the bill the “Preventing Government Waste and Protecting Coal Mining Jobs in America Act.” But the only thing it prevents is common sense safeguards for public health and drinking water.

The bill seeks to prevent enforcement of an effective Stream Buffer Zone rule by only allowing the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement to enforce an inadequate rule that makes it easier to pollute thousands of miles of Appalachian headwater streams.

Let your Representative know that you expect them to stand against mountaintop removal coal mining and stand for strong protections for public health and clean water.
