West Virginia considers a ban on coal slurry injection
Take action today
Underground coal slurry injection threatens the health and water quality of communities throughout West Virginia. State agencies and the legislature have conducted various studies on the environmental and health impacts of slurry injections and found them to be unsafe.
The Alternative Coal Slurry Disposal Act (HB 2850 in the House, SB248 in the Senate) would permanently ban slurry injection in West Virginia and protect the state’s drinking water, as well as create a tax incentive for coal companies to eliminate slurry from their preparation plants. This bill is the culmination of years of work by our friends at the Sludge Safety Project and concerned citizens across West Virginia.
With your help, West Virginia could become the first Appalachian state to ban toxic underground coal slurry injection!
