Mountaintop removal coal mining is an extremely destructive form of strip mining found in central and southern Appalachia, with some mines as big as the island of Manhattan.
It tears apart communities, poisons water supplies, pollutes the air and destroys our nation's natural heritage – while only making the climate crisis worse. Learn more here.
The Clean Water Protection Act is a bill in the US House of Representatives which will sharply reduce mountaintop removal coal mining by protecting our headwater streams, where our rivers, like the Mississippi and the Ohio, are born. Over 2,000 miles of streams have already been buried and polluted. But we can stop this.
Contact your Representative today and ask them to become a cosponsor of the Clean Water Protection Act. To learn more about the Clean Water Protection Act visit www.ilovemountains.org/clean-water-protection-act
