Rockefeller has co-sponsored the Appalachian Restoration Act. Tomorrow I will visit Sen. Byrd’s mobile office in Ranson, W.Va. to plead for his sponsorship for this important bill. Although West Virginians are not the only ones affected by the deplorable and reckless acts of Massey Energy Company, they are disproportionally exploited by “King Coal.” I say that the jig is up, the cat is out of the proverbial bag, and Mr. Blankenship and his company can stonewall all they want. It will not change the facts. Now we have to hold them accountable at a financial and moral level. I have tried in vain to talk with someone at Massey, but their promises to return my calls are never kept.Unfortunately, my representative is Shelley Moore Capito, and she is a Republican who won’t go up against the coal barons. We need help from every person in this nation to make them stop the madness. Contact everyone in your address book and implore them to start letter and e-mail campaigns. Obama’s election is proof that working at the grassroots level can work. Time to roll up our shirtsleeves and get going.
