I know each time I turn on a light I am par.ticipating in the distruction. Harpeth Valley utilities needs to offer GREEN POWER.

I left the hills of Ky w/my parents (I was 15) in 1985 in search of opportunity. Back then, strip mining was the contraversey. I looked forward to returning to buy the house I grew up in (and my dad built) for my retirement… I miss my hills. Sadly, there won’t be any hills to return to if coal companies have thier way. I watched Coal Country on Green tv and depression overtook me. I wanted to cry, and yes, I’m ashamed to say, to kill. Coal company CEOs AND the polititions who allow these massively destructive practices should be hung by their necks w/rope made from dollar bills. Their argument is “we provide jobs” and this is true…for a very few. I remember growing up everyone (and I mean everyone) I knew worked in a mine shaft, a coal plant, or drove a coal truck. Then came strip mining. Shaft jobs were lost. Now there’s nothing but a huge excavator and a few truck drivers left. Where are all the jobs promised? Why is it, coal rich areas have such high levels of proverty? Is providing energy today, worth the cost of poisoning the land and air forever? Regardless of the propaganda, “clean coal” is only clean when it’s buried. Mother nature new this so she buried it. Also, it suprises me that noone finds these mountains curious arceologically. Aren’t these the oldest mountains in America? That’s got to demand some kind of protection.

I breathe in the fragrance and my heart feels at home. We have a predator, destroying our magnificant mountains and I am outraged that God’s beautiful handiwork is being raped. I ache when I see the devastation.
